Blow Out
Aroview: A seemingly ordinary car-crash is found by sound-recordist John Travolta to have sinister overtones when he rewinds his chance taping of the incident. Widely seen as dir. De Palma's finest moment (together with CARRIE), this definitely stands comparison with major influence, A. Hitchcock, in its visual command and cynical plot ironies.

4 stars (Very Good) Dream-logic trumps realism to accommodate De Palma's melodramatic style and baroque set pieces. Fair call. Memorable villain (Lithgow), awesomely perverse ending. A must if you've ever said "whoa, cool shot!" during a movie. ~fairbrother
2 stars (Good Try) It has timeless curiosity value and deserves to be seen but I believe they should have done better than Travolta in the lead. ~Tubbs
5 stars (Exceptional) What if Hitchcock and Antonioni had collaborated on The Conversation? From hilarious slasher movie opening to emotionally raw ending, this is a masterpiece. ~Pearce
