Memory and Desire
Aroview: Director Niki Caro pulls out the art-house stops for her feature debut: a love-story about a mismatched Japanese couple whose honeymoon in New Zealand goes awry.
While the storyline (from a Peter Wells short-story) strains to deliver dramatically, the flawless photography and stately pace contrive a faintly surreal version of our native landscapes, with a dose of Tokyo-style alienation thrown in.

3 stars (Good Enough) I've watched this more than once, and with the amount of NZ films I've collected that's saying something. Doesn't hold one's interest 100% of the time, but pretty close. ~Barry B
