Hideous Kinky
Aroview: A post-TITANIC Kate Winslet keeps her art-house credentials dry in a more challenging role as a flakey yet driven hippie who decamps to Morocco with two daughters in the early '70s. Eschewing stereotypes of the era, this gives a believable account of both its spiritual ambitions and evaded realities, one that's gently amusing, but with an undertow of seriousness, dir. Gillies Mackinnon (SMALL FACES) again displaying his unsentimental viewpoint. Taken from a memoir by Esther Freud, daughter of the English painter Lucien Freud.

1 star (Turkey) Rubbish! ~Anon
3 stars (Good Enough) The screenplay is loosely structured but this is not a problem thanks to the central performer, the locations, and the terrific smorgasbord soundtrack. ~Tubbs
