USA / Mexico 1974, 114 minutes
Dir. Alejandro Jodorowsky
Rating: [R18]
Genres: Cult
Topics: Hippies & Psychedelia.
Aroview: Jodorowsky's determinedly surrealist vision of mystical enlightenment about a man (the mad Mexican himself) who journeys mountain-ward to discover the lore of the nine ancient sages - here personified in abstract vignettes each named after the planets.
Largely dispensing with dialogue and narrative coherence, his epic hallucination instead commits to some of the most potent imagery ever consigned to film, with real-life amputees, armour-clad frogs and a mass of Jesus effigies among its catalogue of prurient phenomena. A product of naked, if naïve, ambition, this ranks as one of the bona fide 'freaks' of cinema. Note: Print contains 'genital fogging'.

5 stars (Exceptional) Stunning ideas, sets, & visuals made possible with "John Lennon 1970's Bucks": This film proves our unwinnable mechagnosis reality. As the karma burns we are still left with mission and technology - to be radical/root of magic and tool. ~Dr_'n'
4 stars (Very Good) This movie is great if you take the visuals as-is without reading too much into them. And I mean that with high praise. Stunning set pieces, some rad characters, and one dude with a killer mohawk. I dig El Topo more, but this movie is a perfect 1am flick. ~Pop&Coffee
3 stars (Good Enough) A screenplay that doesn't seek to please. ~Columbard
