Girlfight
Aroview: A teenage girl breaks out of her working-class rut by training as a boxer, an arena that presents sexual prejudice as her chief opponent.
Essentially a rites-of-passage drama with a sports theme, its modest means beat the odds to share the Grand Jury prize at Sundance 2000, carried largely on the muscular but feminine shoulders of Michelle Rodriguez, who displays certain potential as a heavyweight actress.

2 stars (Good Try) This is a middling-to-poor movie that's elevated by a Michelle Rodriguez performance that's so good, it makes you wonder why she's relegated to Fast and the Furious. Otherwise, by numbers storyline and watches like 90's indie; Kusama will do better. ~Pop&Coffee
2 stars (Good Try) It precedes 'Million Dollar Baby" (2004). Michelle Rodriguez is worth watching but the screenplay is on the predictable side. ~Tubbs
3 stars (Good Enough) I hate to bag on a fellow reviewer but putting Girlfight in the same category as Million Dollar Baby is like saying The Devil Wears Prada is like The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. ~Pearce
