Aroview: Possibly Woody Allen's most critically appreciated film since BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, this mock-u-drama concerns the life, loves and music of an appallingly self-centred 1930s jazz-guitarist (Penn). Small-scale and in a minor-key, with Samantha Morton standing out as a sweet, mute laundress, who is devoted to Penn's lowdown rat, while the abundance of tasteful Django Reinhardt-style jazz is constant delight. Guitar by Howard Alden.
