Cast Away
Aroview: Tom Hanks commits to his craft once again, here as a cocky, time-obsessed Fed-Ex courier who suffers the irony of having to subsist indefinitely on a desert island following an air-crash.
Alone on screen for most of the running time, Hanks' lifeline here is the ever-versatile director Robert Zemeckis, who ekes dramatic tension out of the stripped-bare narrative and informs the solitary proceedings with restraint and philosophical depth. Ambitious project was shot in two segments six months apart (to allow for Hanks to lose weight - DeNiro style). Warning: The product placement is so blatant, it could almost have been titled FED X's CAST AWAY.

5 stars (Exceptional) Amazingly emotional. Tom Hanks best work, and one of Zemeckis' best. All round excellent. ~dr.strangelove
2 stars (Good Try) The running time is a long two and a quarter hours - as a viewer who would you like to spend most of that time alone with(?) ~Tubbs
