Edward Furlong is a middle-class kid thrown in the deep end for selling pot, who is ambiguously ‘looked after’ by head-convict Willem Dafoe, amid the daily graft and violence of the ‘pen’. With a pace that allows the performances to breathe, this also features impressive supporting work, most unusually from a ‘transsexualised’ Mickey Rourke.

3 stars (Good Enough) The screenplay is believable and is aided by little fuss performances all round. There is a terrific bluesy soundtrack. ~Tubbs
