Phantom of the Paradise
Aroview: A genuine oddity, this musical/horror spans both dir. De Palma’s satirical and horror periods, with the story of the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA updated as a rock-comic jab at the bloated 70s music industry.
Singer Paul Williams plays Faust-ian producer ‘Swan’ who rips off, torments and seduces composer William Finley, horribly scarred in an accident with a record-press. The excellent soundtrack is by Williams himself. Also stars Jessica Harper (SUSPIRIA).

5 stars (Exceptional) They say that De Palma is just a Hitchcock imitator, but nobody else could have made THIS movie. Neatly straddles his earlier satirical movies and his later horror/thrillers, with great songs to boot. ~Pearce
