Ruling Class, The

Aroview: An eccentric comedy about English eccentricity, with schizophrenic aristocrat Peter O’Toole succeeding the Earlship of Gurney, and proceeding to whirl across the screen with delusions of being Jesus Christ himself, much to his relative’s consternation. With a free mixture of satire, song, farce and black comedy, this profitably recruits scene-stealers like Alastair Sim and Arthur Lowe into the household, thankfully holding off its (eventually overstated) serious points till late in the piece.
