Forever Mine

USA 2001, 117 minutes
Dir. Paul Schrader
Rating: [R16]
Genres: Suspense/Crime

Aroview: The victim of a squelched distribution deal, this film-noir romance from dir. Schrader (AFFLICTION) is one of the most notable films to ever go straight-to-cable. Describing an unpredictable love-triangle between crooked-politician Ray Liotta, wife Gretchen Mol and cabana-boy Joseph Fiennes, against the political shifts of the 1970s and 80s, it conjures up a woozy-lush atmosphere (partly courtesy of Angelo Badalamenti’s score). The self-conscious ‘homage’ elements and stylised dialogue may irritate some expectations, but it’s worth a look for noir fans.
