Mothman Prophecies, The

USA 2002, 119 minutes
Dir. Mark Pellington
Rating: [M]
Genres: Suspense/Crime / Paranorma

Aroview: Drawing on an actual event and mythical explanation, this eerie tale concerns widower reporter Richard Gere, who becomes embroiled in the hunt for a mysterious, moth-like entity, apparently responsible for deaths and generally ‘loco’ behaviour of the small-town residents.

Conjures an air of sweaty paranoia close in spirit to “The X-Files”, though dir. Pellington (“Arlington Road”) overkills the material with visual trickery while letting the “truth” of the story get away on him.
