Thirteen Conversations About One Thing
Aroview: Not just chit-chat, but drama with its philosophical head screwed on, the various lives of middle-class Bostonians (a hot-shot lawyer, an insurance exec, a physics professor, a maid, etc.) intersect through fate and mutual pursuit of the ‘H’ word…
Precisely scripted as both a heightened fable and believable drama, a first-rate ensemble cast (with a standout by Alan Arkin) inhabit well-drawn characters that are each able to hold an interesting conversation. If it does tend to lean on its themes a little too heavily at times (as inferred by the title) it constantly finds a subtle and satisfying pitch between the melancholic and whimsical.
