Aroview: Trading on a promise to explore the mysterious crop-circle phenomenon, the third supernatural blockbuster from M. Night Shyamalan instead explores the writer/director’s abiding existential themes while telling a familiar tale of family, tragedy and lost faith - albeit with aliens.
After his wife’s untimely death, preacher-turned-farmer Mel Gibson and his kids discover a crop-circle in their backyard - indeed a sign of imminent alien invasion, but one which transpires from a singular family’s point-of-view. The ambitious, dialogue-intensive screenplay has as much regard for human intimacy as narrative invention yet, though it strikes the right notes, too often feels either by-the-book or contrived to leave a lasting brand. It's a jigsaw that does eventually fit together, though more a force-fit than one that satisfyingly snaps into place.

3 stars (Good Enough) A unique take on the aliens film, this is gripping and suspenseful, another Shyamalan creation that will have you guessing until the end. Sadly, not quite as satisfying in its final moments as it should be. ~Tom H
1 star (Turkey) A family wake up one morning to find a massive crop circle in their backyard, then discover they're happening world-wide. A case of oh no the world's been invaded by aliens, we're all going to die. Sadly lacking in any substance. ~GenXGirl
1 star (Turkey) Definitely not as good as Sixth Sense. whole premise was flawed. Aliens who are allergic to water attack a planet that is saturated with it. huge holes in the theological reasoning as well. ~Macthella
3 stars (Good Enough) To its credit it has at least more Sci fi than action sequences although the water solution is a bit weak. The suspense around the invaders is well handled. Mel struggles with the acting bit of his performance but the kids see him through. ~Tubbs
3 stars (Good Enough) Gibson's presence maybe divisive, but Signs is so genuinely scary it feels like a new suspense classic... until the final five minutes, which collapse into such clumsy, insulting nonsense you wanna slap the screen. D'oh! ~fairbrother
