French Can Can
Aroview: Jean Renoir returned to France after 15 years absence to make this vibrant tribute to the Parisian world of his father, the Impressionist painter August Renoir.
Storywise, it veers between entertaining backstage scenes at the Moulin Rouge (concerning the invention of the ‘can can’ dance) and some trivial romantic subplots. Essential for the wildly colourful dance sequence that climaxes the film.
