Swept Away
Aroview: Rich ogress Madonna is marooned with moronic hunk Adriano Giannini in this desert island drama that was washed away by a wave of ridicule on its release, especially for the leading lady and her hubby (the director).
Actually it is pretty awful, though like all disasters kind of fascinating to watch. Remaking a 1974 film by Lina Wertmuller, it misses the enjoyably overblown satire of the original, essentially by making Madonna so hateful and unlikeable she taints the entire proceeding. The sentimental flourishes late in the movie are a final, laughable indulgence –this work was liberally garlanded with Golden Raspberry Awards.
