Wonderwall
Aroview: Sixties counter-culture curiosity about a meek middle-aged bachelor who becomes consumed with lust and envy for his “swinging” young neighbours whom he spies on through a ‘magic’ peephole.
The boundaries of fantasy and reality eventually blur in a psychedelic haze, spurred on by George Harrison’s suitably trippy (and notable) sitar-based soundtrack. A product of its time and place, this ‘experiments’ with narrative while it presents and reflects the conflicting sensibilities of traditional British stodginess and 60s permissiveness.
