Aroview: Three school friends reunite for an evening of reminiscence and recrimination, in this tense, coiled drama filmed in ‘fly on the wall’ style by indie. stalwart Linklater (WAKING LIFE).
Setting the divergent agendas and philosophies of its protagonists – a filmmaker, a career hedonist and a public prosecutor - loose upon each other, this crucially hinges on an accusation of date-rape which unwinds as the night progresses. Based on Stephen Belber’s stageplay, the dialogue is handled with relish by its cast, while the deliberately loose and smudged camerawork heightens the sense of personal conflict. Broadly, a critique of subjective recollection in the style of David Mamet, but the troubled ghosts of Generation-X also hover close by.
