Crime of Father Amaro, The
Aroview: Melodramatic and ironic critique of the crimes of the Roman Catholic church that was hugely successful in its native Mexico.
A young priest (Bernal) arrives at his new appointment in a rural village to find the local clergy engaged in wholesale racketeering, drug-dealing and fornication, (though he proves not above temptation himself). Despite the storyline finally opting for safer territory, touches of Bunuel-ian humour certainly add some satirical bite.

3 stars (Good Enough) A handsome young priest, Padre Amaro, who arrives in a small town and finds himself surrounded by hypocrisy and corruption, also finds himself tempted by a beautiful young woman. A revealing, slightly contrived, dig at the Catholic Church. ~GenXGirl
