Town is Quiet, The
Aroview: A characteristically gritty yet humanist urban drama that expands out in scope from the directors’ previous snapshots of life in his home town of Marseilles.
Orbiting around a factory-working mother (played by the director’s wife) who moonlights as a prostitute to feed the habit of her drug-addicted teenage daughter, other hard-bitten characters include a black breakdancer, a middle-class art teacher and her philandering politico husband, a porn-addicted taxi driver and his blinkered parents, and a Sartrian bar owner with the underworld connections.
