Oh! Mr Porter
Aroview: One of the best British comedies of the 1930s, this predates Ealing in its winning blend of whimsy, slapstick and inventiveness.
Will Hay plays a proud genius of incompetence who is given charge of the obscure railway station of Buggleskelly in Northern Ireland, with its own resident phantom, eccentric locals and decrepit steam engine. Taking the 'initiative', Hay soon provokes various disasters, climaxing with a run-in with gunrunners.
