Aro Recommended Party Monster - The Shockumentary

USA 1998, 56 minutes
Dir. Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato
Rating: [Exempt]
Genres: Documentary / Youth, Psycho

Topics: Gender-bender, Period 1980s, Fashion.

Aroview: Compulsively sordid true story of one Michael Alig, whose success as a New York night club impresario devolved into drug abuse and the brutal murder of one of his acolytes.

Playing like a basement version of ‘54’, this bursts with tabloid-juicy details and larger than life characters, holding undoubted allure for fashion victims, tabloid trash-hounds, latterday hedonists, and those that ‘lived’ the eighties.

Note: Feeling they were onto a sure thing, the same film-makers subsequently turned the story into a feature film drama starring Macaulay Culkin as Alig, with much less success.
