Veronica Guerin
Aroview: Playing an Irish journalist determined to uncover the drug-networks of Ireland, Blanchett gives a rounded portrait of a headstrong real-life crusader.
Moved by the plight of child addicts in Dublin in the early 1990s, she swiftly moves to expose drug-dealers on various levels, but acts with a little too much naive enthusiasm and once she treads on the territory of the local IRA, matters race to their inevitable conclusion. Dir. Schumacher lays on the action and swelling music with a heavy hand.
