Iron Monkey
Aroview: Enjoyably charged with wacky humour, this fairly traditional Hong Kong slambam concerns a doctor and his daughter who must track down a notorious outlaw - Iron Monkey -in 19th century China.
Storywise this is much of a piece with the period classics of Tsui Hark (who produced), but is distinguished by its dazzling action sequences, which climax in a daredevil fight atop burning poles. Directed by the action choreographer of THE MATRIX, CROUCHING TIGER and KILL BILL, this is a chance to see Woo Ping at work on his own turf.

4 stars (Very Good) Brilliant action sequences and wirework, with some ingenious martial arts elements, and (although containing a strange sense of humour) less odd than the average modern Tsui Hark outing. Fans of Crouching Tiger gather around. ~Tom H
