Fear X
Aroview: The Danish dir. of BLEEDER makes his American debut with a darkly inventive pscyhodrama which follows the obsession of a Wisconsin security-guard (Turturro) in tracking down his wife's killer.
Shot dead in a mall carpark, Turturro tries to trace her last steps, studying CCTV footage and conducting his own inquiries into possible police corruption. However a certain ambiguity begins to assert itself - is this 'reality' or the self-styled detective's elaborate 'solution' to his grief?
Underscored by the soundscapes of Brian Eno and a striking visual atmosphere, this finally never finds the satisfactory revelation to bind the story together, but remains a thriller made memorable by the European eye of its creator. From a story by Hubert Selby Jr.
