Happiness of the Katakuris
Aroview: A delirious confection from Japanese bad boy dir., Takashi Miike, this “zombie musical” is his most benevolent yet purely entertaining film.
The bloody, comical, melodious mayhem starts when the cheery Katakuri family take over a run-down bed-and-breakfast resort in the mountains, but find they have to literally bury the bad publicity when the tenants keep popping their clogs. Mixing all-and-sundry of styles, including animation sequences, this is so constantly inventive and tightly conceived it kind of screams out for a bigger budget (alas the digital video here look is more distracting than becoming). No matter, lots to enjoy!
