Cannibal! The Musical
Aroview: This fiendishly inventive 'student' film from SOUTH PARK creator Trey Parker is one of those no-budget labour of loves like say, BAD TASTE, that is so well conceived and executed you know the creative mind at work is destined for bigger things.
Based on the true legend of gold miner Alfred Packer, wrongfully accused of cannibalism and murder in the Old Mid-West, this is a cunningly forged hybrid of two contradictory genres - the cannibal film and the musical - but with competent acting, astute comic timing, and infectious musical numbers (climaxed with 'Hang the Bastard'), this is a much more substantial work than its no-profile and gimmicky idea would imply. Picked up for distribution by trash specialists Troma, and probably the best movie they've ever released.
