Morvern Callar
Aroview: Enigmatic drama from the dir. of RATCATCHER that unreels a woman's journey into the unknown after her boyfriend commits suicide and she purloins his unpublished manuscript to finance a holiday to the nightclubs of Ibiza.
Managed with a visual eloquence and penchant for using textures, surfaces and ambience to complement the action, this study of the 'numbness' of modern hedonism, is a joy to look at though may feel a tad superficial beneath its arthouse trappings. However, with her gift for expressing awkward and dissonant emotions, Morton revels in the title role, providing the perfect foil to the opaqueness of the storyline.
