Germany Year Zero
Aroview: A heart-breaking depiction of life in the post-WW2 ruins of Berlin, in which a boy struggles to help his family who are forced to live in one room of an over-crowded tenement.
The cruelty of a desperate society and circumstance is portrayed with devastating simplicity. Along with ROME OPEN CITY, this represents dir. Rossellini at his peak. Possibly the only incongruity is in the use of the Italian language.
