Aroview: Inspired by the plight of his country's homeless children, dir. Babenco created this semi-improvised odyssey of three boys in the slums of Brazil - escaping the horrors of reformatory school they plunge into an equally squalid life of crime.
Features remarkable performances from its young cast, plus a memorable turn from Marilia Pera as a whore-without-a-heart-of-gold. Tragically, lead actor 12-year old Fernando Ramos da Silva, was shot by police 5 years later.
