Dawn of the Dead
Aroview: Tight-edged remake of George Romero's original zombie-fest, again reprising a tense battle between a small posse of post-apocalypse human survivors and the hordes of the 'living dead'.
Styled as a kinetic thriller, this dispenses with the satirical strokes of the original, instead using the shopping mall setting as a human-only sanctuary under seige from the outside. Inevitably less thematically rich than one could hope for, this is still commendable for its brilliant opening and slick action stylings.

5 stars (Exceptional) A more graphic and frenetic retelling of Romero's classic, Snyder replaces the walking dead with running dead, a modern score, some dark humour, and some very memorable sequences. ~Tom H
3 stars (Good Enough) Although the Walking Dead as a sub-genre has been thrashed to death this one stands out from among the crowd. ~Tubbs
