American Nightmare, The
Aroview: A searching examination of the American horror films of the late 1960s and 1970s, in which the paranoia of the times was reflected in some intense cinematic artefacts.
Dir. Simon argues that films such as NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, HALLOWEEN, FRIDAY THE 13TH, HILLS HAVE EYES and many others (some of which still cannot be shown in this country, NZ) were graphic analogies for the the violence of the Civil Rights movement, Vietnam and urban drug addiction. Gathering impressive testimony from many of the original directors, this is a fascinating essay for horror fans.
