Hellboy
Aroview: Surefire comicbook yarn - fusing Nazi occultism, demonic otherworlds and FBI intrigues with nice touches of style, humour and character.
Adapted from the comic by Mike Mignola, this concerns a demon baby who is brought to Earth by German scientists in 1944 (in league with Rasputin!) and then raised in secrecy in the US, growing up to become... Ron Perlman. Used as the government's special weapon against Evil, wherever it lurks, he faces a novel crisis when spectres of the past come a-calling.
Translating from page to screen with just the right qualities of imagination and dynamism, this lurches out of focus at moments, but overall carries an irreverant charm all its own.

2 stars (Good Try) Hellboy certainly has its own personality and charm, although it often comes a little too close to comic for its own good. ~Tom H
5 stars (Exceptional) one of Guillermo dei toro best films ~Wyatt Earp
3 stars (Good Enough) Good work by the special effects and in particular the makeup departments but what makes this more watchable than a lot of comic adaptations is Ron Perlman's attitude to his character. ~Tubbs
