Set around an aged hotel in the Louisiana swampland, this follows a young woman's discoveries which eventually lead to the gateway to Hell! Events occur without much plot logic, but carry a certain awful potency. Perhaps still too ragged, badly acted and revolting to appeal to most, this certainly has gathered a considerable cult.

4 stars (Very Good) This is one of the few surreal horror movies that actually resembles a dream. Fulci actually pulls off some remarkable atmosphere to go with his shoddy gore effects. Watch for hints that the cast are having a ball cracking each other up. ~Pearce

5 stars (Exceptional) Don't go into this looking for plot holes, lean into the film, embrace the dream logic. This is pure cinema. The combination of sound & image evokes the experience of a beautiful nightmare. ~Dave
