Aro Recommended Status Anxiety (TV Series)

UK 2004, 150 minutes
Rating: [Exempt]
Genres: Television, Documentary / Sociology

Topics: Philosophy.

Aroview: Writer and presenter Alain De Botton explores the myth that our level of material wealth and career success has a bearing on our happiness and spiritual contentment.

Asserting that we are more anxious about our own importance and achievements than our grandparents were, he links this "status anxiety" to the modern "meritocracies" of Western culture where privilege is earned through achievement and not through bloodlines of aristocracy or spiritual advancement.

An informal and accessible rather than academic presentation of philosophical theory, this will stimulate thought and discussion as to why there is increasing dissatisfaction with the affluent, 'Western' lifestyle.
