Divine Intervention
Aroview: A rare cinematic glimpse into life in Ramallah, on the Palestine-Israel border, with its daily challenges presented through a series of memorably droll sketches.
Reminiscent in tone to the comedies of Aki Kaurismaki, though more considered, with dir. Suleiman's fastidious control of the frame matching his sophisticated humour and disarming wisdom. Politically loaded, yes, but with artistic sensibilities to the fore.
