Phantom of the Opera, The
Aroview: An opulently kitschy version of the amazingly successful Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, in which the shadowy, disfigured 'phantom' (Butler) tries to lure a young singer (Rossum) into his web of control.
Like MOULIN ROUGE this suffers somewhat from production overkill, as might have been expected from dir. Schumacher, yet the garish tone is certainly true to the material, and the music will strike the memory-chords of many. Originally based on the novel by Gaston Leroux.
