Born Into Brothels
Aroview: Heartbreaking examination of the lives of children born into the world of prostitution in Calcutta's red light district, but given a ray of hope through the art of photography.
In the 1990s, dir. Briski documented this squalid scene and encouraged the children she saw to develop skills in photography to escape the downward spiral of life. Returning to actively promote their cause, Briski finds real talents among them and there seems a real possiblity she can assist... A good example of 'activist documentary' making.
