Le Bossu
Aroview: A classically composed swashbuckler in the Dumas tradition (THE THREE MUSKETEERS), in which a wittily vengeful fencing master (Auteuil) disguises himself as a hunchback to seek revenge upon a treacherous count (Luchini).
Set in a world of 18th century cinematic hokum, this rattles through plenty of flashy sword-scenes, whirling costumery, questionable but satisfying melodrama, and a grand moralistic finale. Made on the substantial budget, this hardly cuts any new ground, but is a jolly good romp all the same. Based on the 1857 novel by Paul Feval.
