Stranger, The (1946)
70 years on it is showing its age but it still has some appeal.
Perfume - The Story of a Murderer (2006)
An uneven screenplay but at least it was fresh. When it was good it was very good – particularly when our hero was a baby/a young lad. The set designs in these early scenes were brilliant. Alan Rickman shores up the middle but the late scenes are silly.
Eat That Question: Frank Zappa in His Own Words (2016)
Through good editing, the documentary zapped along and his responses to the many questions highlighted the intelligence of the man and his ability to think on his feet.
Alpha (2018)
The animal training was commendable and along with the photography, it is worth seeing.
My Dinner with Andre (1981)
It needs patience but the unbroken conversation does have some interesting segments.
A Study in Terror (1965)
Although the screenplay is no more than serviceable the period production values are fine and so is the casting.
Little Children (2006)
The film had 2 themes – an illicit love affair & pedophilia. The early scenes, prior to the two lovers amalgamating, were the strongest but then later ones with a great Jackie Earle Haley's performance (as the predator) were just as good.
Blood Beast Terror, The (1967)
It is not great but it is never boring – the casting of Cushing helped by the excellent character actor Glynn Edwards plus Wanda Ventham, Roy Hudd, etc ensures that.
Night of the Big Heat (1967)
The screenplay probably didn't do justice to the plot idea but the casting certainly helped. rn
Midsommar (2019)
It doesn't really create any suspense and the story is more akin to being based on a true story than a horror but the production values and the soundtrack are worthy.
