Flashdance (1983)
The dance segments, scattered throughout the film, are excellent but you need to survive the padding which includes the compulsory romantic subplot.
Lucky You (2007)
The writer is in turmoil as whether to concentrate on the relationship between Drew & Eric or the poker. Drew is given the heave–ho & the poker players take the stage. The choreography of their faces & hands is excellent & it is great publicity for poker.
Silence de la Mer, Le (The Silence of the Sea) (1947)
Depicting an enemy as a decent & cultured person is a good start. There are some interesting shots of 1940's Paris & these relieve what could have been a claustrophobic setting within the living room of the house where most of the "action" takes place.
Last Tycoon, The (1976)
The basic plot about movie making was fine, and so was the attention to the period's detail, but the fine cast that was assembled had to sit around for longer than necessary whilst the screenplay got seriously sidetracked by the romantic interest.
Older Than Ireland (2015)
It is an appetiser – hopefully, their more in–depth, edited out interviews have been archived somewhere.
Bloodsucking Freaks (1978)
It is so far over the top that the violence is "entertaining" rather than objectionable.
Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams (1982)
Cheech & Chong have done better but it is not bad in parts.
Southland Tales (2006)
A couple of bizarre casting decisions aside the screenplay was hard to follow – whether this was due to its re–editing and shortening is anybody's guess.
heART of the matter, The (2016)
Excellent story telling through use of archival footage and interviews. Gordon Tovey deserves this quality documentary.
Shout at the Devil (1976)
Lee Marvin = entertainment and Ian Holm is great in support but it is racist at times and there is some well filmed blood sport depiction.
