Esther and the King (1960)
The King said, "I have spoken and it is the law". Those were the days.
A Ghost Story (2016)
Relatively speaking it is a small budget movie (note the cost savings in wardrobe) but by leaving the well–trodden path it competes with the bigger guys. The screenplay is low key but intelligent and certainly original.
Berlin, I Love You (2019)
I don't mind looking at Berlin and I have always admired Helen Mirren but other than some small musical segments it had little of interest to offer.
Toxic Avenger, The (1985)
It is wonderfully over the top – especially the hardcore violence which would be repulsive in other hands. The action scenes and stunt work are full–on. Hopefully, the environmental message I think the film is trying to convey is not lost in the mayhem.
Frankie & Alice (2010)
The material is not particularly original but Halle Berry and Stellan Skarsgard is an attractive casting.
Foolproof (2003)
The screenplay is okay if not too fresh but the casting of David Suchet helps.
Brick (2005)
It is one of those films that will stand repeat viewing. It overcomes its small budget through creativeness and a fresh approach.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (Mission Impossible 6) (2018)
The stunt work and special effects continue to be excellent as is the legendary theme tune. A true and tried format as lasted quite a while now.
Streamers (1983)
It is okay but because it is a play filmed in the studio there is no way the audience can escape and they are stuck with the histrionics which wear a bit thin before the end of the long running time.
Born Romantic (2001)
Jane Horrocks heads a talented cast and all perform as if they are enjoying themselves.
