Bad Boys 2 (2003)
There is the usual competent stunt work but how on earth can anyone justify 140 minutes of sameness scene after scene.
Waterworld (1995)
Dennis Hopper is great.
Trespass Against Us (2016)
Before I forget I thought Lyndsey Marshal did very well to hold her own against the talents of Fassbender and Gleeson. There is nothing wrong with the performances – especially from these three but the screenplay flatters to deceive.
Sully (2016)
Although it is only a dramatisation it has the virtue of being low key and for the director it is short in length. The river scenes are beautifully shot and the special effects for the crash well done.
Frost/Nixon (2008)
It takes a while to get the two together in this dramatisation mainly because I believe there are too many spare characters filling screen time. The interview segments are not too bad but overall its worth just watching Frank Langella.
Fletch (1985)
Not too bad overall – there is a good comedy skit when Chevy ad libs an address of a convention audience.
Fitzcarraldo (1982)
Whilst no film involving Kinski could be boring this one takes an hour to really get up steam with some of the riverboat scenes that follow unforgettable. The crews that built the jungle sets deserve special praise.
Madeline (1998)
Hatty makes it good viewing for the youngsters but the always excellent Frances McDormand makes it worthwhile for the adults.
Gathering, The (2006)
A better than average cast and the plot idea is okay but it disappointingly fails to deliver anything worthwhile.
Our Kind of Traitor (2016)
Stellan SkarsgÄrd is a bit too strong perhaps at times but the story is solidly enough told and performed.
