Thunderbirds (2004)
Prefer the puppets but except for the screeching kids there are some very good visual segments.
Heiress, The (1949)
A talented cast and a solid plot make for satisfying viewing.
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Downey seems to be specialising in these special effects films – there is a wealth of acting talent in the cast that's not required. Some of the effects are very good but most to me seem to be much the same as the last one or the next one.
That Evening Sun (2009)
Its an actor's film and the small cast do well. The casting is spot on – Hal Holbrook is excellent and I also liked the work of Carrie Preston and Barry Corbin. The photography and musical score also help.
Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The (2007)
The night time train robbery segment was well done and the photography/locations likewise. The casting wasn't too bad but it has to be something special to maintain interest when its over 2 hrs – cutting back the title would have been a good start.
By the Light of the Silvery Moon (1953)
There is nothing wrong with the songs and Mary Wickes adds interest to the padding in between.
Age Of Adaline (2015)
It starts off very well – a refreshing plot idea – but it loses its way and becomes ordinary once the romantic segments kick in – a pity.
Rewrite, The (2015)
Hugh Grant characters don't normally last the distance but in this film there is some real relief to be found in the casting of Marisa Tomei, JK Simmons and Allison Janney.
Learning to Drive (2014)
The modest plot doesn't really require leads with so much acting talent. Good musical score.
Fish Tank (2009)
Casting spot on. Jarvis does remarkably well for a young 'un. She has a great head butt. The dialogue concise and in your face. The scene with the kid in the river looked authentic. The dance number with mum and daughters reminded me of "Bande a Part".
