Hostage
Aroview: Bruce Willis negotiates familiar territory as a SWAT agent drawn into a messy siege in a high-security mansion, where three white-trash lowlifes have taken a wealthy accountant (Pollack) and children hostage.
Haunted by a previous failure to save a mother and daughter during a similar crisis, Willis wrestles his demons and the unfolding peril of his latest crisis with shaved head, one-liners and distraught expressions all in place. Plotwise this is satisfyingly convoluted, with a convincing streak of sadism that leads directly into the massive overkill of the finale.
Those who have discovered dir. Siri's brilliant THE NEST should be well-pleased by his Hollywood debut.

3 stars (Good Enough) A decent hostage suspense/thriller, with some good twists and turns amidst the standard hostage and washed-up-cop elements, but an ending that is just a little too prolonged to be satisfying. ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) Not too much different from other hostage films. ~Tubbs
