Dark Blue
Aroview: Unexpectedly sharp police drama lifted from a James Ellroy story and placed into Los Angeles on the eve of the 1992 riots.
Expressing the semi-corrupt and amoral mindset of the LAPD with a heated verbal energy, Kurt Russell turns in a key performance as a veteran homicide detective investigating a mass killing. Support cast are similarly fine, proceedings only really dropping into conventionality (heartfelt speeches etc.) in the last twenty minutes.
