Méliès the Magician
Aroview: George Méliès was a unique pioneer of cinema, who virtually invented the 'trick shot' and created an astonishing 1000 short films using special effects trickery in a classic 16 year run from 1898 to 1914.
Through his roots in vaudeville, Méliès managed to combine magic trick gags (disappearing people), with outlandish science-fiction plots, adapted from the likes of Jules Verne. This disc combines the definitive 1997 documentary on the director (by Jacques Meny) with a selection of 15 archival-quality films. Features:
