Mickybo and Me
Aroview: Widely praised though little-seen drama which observes the friendship between two young lads - one Catholic, one Protestant - against the background of the 'Troubles' in 1970s Northern Ireland.
Escaping from their soiled family lives and the intimidating street scene, they form an obsession with the film BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID, and modelling themselves on these characters have a runaway adventure to Australia. Breezily scripted and filmed with a light hand, this provides a nourishing depiction of childhood, without letting the dark circumstances of the backdrop overwhelm the message.
