aka: Danny the Dog
USA 2005, 102 minutes
Dir. Louis Leterrier
Genres: Action/Adventure / Martial Arts
Feat. Jet Li, Morgan Freeman, Bob Hoskins
Aroview: Aggressive action drama concerns an animalistic hitman (Li) who has been secretly raised by a Glaswegian mobster (Hoskins) as a dog trained to attack human targets, with Kung Fu skills, once his collar has been loosened.
After an unexpected incident, Li falls into the company of a blind piano tuner (Freeman) and his daughter, who attempt to recover his humanity. Written by Luc Besson, this manages to tame its potentially unruly revenge scenario with a certain depth of feeling, and Li certainly gives his most layered acting performance yet. Even so, a tone of canine brutality prevails, with a succession of gratifying fight scenes.

4 stars (Very Good) Frenetic cage-fighting action flick, Jet Li goes animal on his opposition, before being adopted by an unassuming Morgan Freeman, and taught to be human once more. An uncanny performance by Li, who plays both wildly aggressive and naively sensitive. ~Tom H
2 stars (Good Try) The plot idea is not too bad but with all due respect to Morgan Freeman the film only takes off when the great Bob Hoskins is on camera. ~Tubbs
4 stars (Very Good) I went into a preview screening not knowing anything about this except that Jet Li was in it. Wow. What a lovely action/comedy/drama. It's much more than the sum of its parts. Yes it's silly and actiony and violent but it also has a heart ~Catapillar
