Mondovino
Aroview: A sobering documentary about the effects of globalisation on the wine industry, which travels to various vineyards, villages and offices to quaff a range of views and philosophies from jetsetting consultants like Michel Rolland to humbler winemakers from Argentina to Sardinia.
Filmed with a slightly woozy handheld style and edited in patchwork fashion, this builds a convincing, though never unsubtle critique of the increased American dominance in the world trade - dir. Nossiter's best skill is his ability to put interviewees at their ease, eliciting some startlingly contrasting comments on the meaning of 'the grape'. Perhaps one to savour with a bottle and glass at hand.
